Pick Me, Choose Me, Buy Me.

Well, like I said in my last post, I'm still recovering from the February funk.  Being as it's almost May.... well, hopefully I've really recovered.  Now that it's above 50 degrees on a regular basis.... I am finding my mojo - and I miss this blog.  Many thanks to not wearing pants anymore for helping me find my mojo.

And yes, I popped back in here because I really think your life will be better if you make a specific purchase.  And stop wearing jeans because winter is OVER.

Enter my new BFF:  Old Navy.

Never fear:  I may not have posted in 51 days, but my crappy outfit photos are exactly the same.  The front-on photo of the skirt makes it look wide because when I stood like a normal person there was too much of my toes in the picture.  Nothankyou.

Anyway, you can get this shirt in black/white, gray, black, OR this fab red/navy stripe that I highly recommend.  It's listed for $32.94 but I got it for at least 30% off.   I'm wearing a medium in the picture, but I think next time (duh I'm buying the black/white stripe) I'm going to buy a small tall.  The medium fits, but I find that tall always has a little more room than the regular size.  #sizingishard

All Quiet on the Blogging Front

I have been burning to get a post out of my fingertips for days... but unfortunately, work hit the fan over the past week and I feel like all I've done for the past 11 days is eat, sleep, and go back to work.  With a side of online shopping.

So I've been a bit of a zombie lately, but in the midst of the crazy I have been fixating on something that happened during Halloween.  I had been wanting to dress up as Rosie the Riveter for over a year now, ever since I had a cute headscarf in my Forever 21 cart a million years ago and it got away from me.  RIP F21 HEADSCARF.

Bonus points to everyone who didn't think I was Lucille Ball.... which was approximately almost everyone.

Side note:  That pic was taken with my husband's brand spankin new iPhone 6 plus, which apparently besides being super ridiculous takes extremely sharp and focused pictures.  I mean, I can see every stray hair and forehead scrunch wrinkle.  Dang.  Luckily I should be the proud owner of a contract that's ready to be renewed on... Black Friday.

So I wore the scarf, loved the scarf, became obsessed with the scarf.  (Bandana?  Headband?)

Either way, one of my customers nominated this to be my "holiday look" for the year, and I'm pretty much obsessed.

I already have the red polka dot on the bottom left... and I need the red/white/blue because I'm American... but I'm just overwhelmed with possibilities for the other ones I need.

I mean.... the possibilities are endless when you think of clipping on a little pin, sparkly hairbow, etc.  I seriously don't know which ones to order.  (All these pics are from SandChica's etsy shop.)

I think I'm going to try to limit myself to maybe 5 head scarves.  That's not excessive, right? 

And damn if the shop isn't having a sale.  What's a girl to do?

Shopping Holiday

As we celebrate the end of this beautiful holiday weekend (and I finally get a day off), I have been gearing up for one of the most exciting events on my calendar this year: my 5 year college reunion. (Yes, it's a rather light calendar year.)

In anticipation of this event, I've been debating every single life choice I've made in the past 5 years - from career choices to the current state of my split ends... a little introspection makes me a crazy person. 

As such, I've been a little computer absent.... although I'd like to blame it also on the fact that we haven't had internet for 3 days.  Yesterday, I unplugged the router that AT&T declared was bad.... aand when I plugged it back in last night, it's been working ever since.  Maybe I'll just switch careers and become an internet repair person... cause I've already got it all figured out.

Anyway, I'm channeling my inner nerves into a new wardrobe because nothing says "I'm happy to see you after 5 years" like clothes with the tags still on them.  Right?!  Right.

I made another Old Navy order after seeing a dress in store because they had a tall online... I haven't shopped at Old Navy in years, but I think they've won me back.  Maybe.

This dress definitely exceeded my expectations - and the cheap price I paid for it.  The fabric is a nice, heavier weight and it seems like it will wear/wash extremely well.

 It's not the shape of dress I normally wear, but it's stretchy and like pajamas so.... perfect.

And because I'm a sucker for something even cheaper... I ordered the black version of the dress.  It was literally under $12, and it's even softer and comfier than the gray version.... but the fabric is a little iffy.  It seems like it might pill and basically fall apart quickly.... but then again, it was only $12.  And can you ever have enough black dresses?

In each of them, I would have loved an extra inch or two of length... but they're not bad, and I need to get over my fear of exposing my lumpy limbs... and I will, with the help of a spray tan.

The next thing I was SUPER pumped about was a ponte blazer I had seen in stores.  Of course, they only had 1 size at the store I was at and it was weirdly tight.  I ordered a medium after the reviews said to size up.... and I still think it was a bit tight.

 Now, I think the "pink" blazer was a great theory... gosh, what I wouldn't give to get this blazer in a hot pink!  Alas, I ordered the only 2 colors available... pale pink and navy blue. 

I think the pink is too sheer and the sausage-casing of my upper arms isn't attractive. 

The navy blue, below, is better.... I think it still looks a little tight on my arms.  I may try to exchange it for a large if another store has one.  *crossing fingers*

And then after the relative win of an Old Navy order.... we have a Target order.  A hot damn mess of Target.

First up.... who doesn't want a see-through (hi bra!) maxi dress that shows every single bump to an embarrassing degree.   Sure, we could blame those lumps on my lack of working out... but I could blame the clothes instead. 

I got this leopard shirt dress and I was SO SO excited.... but when Mr. RH started laughing as I pulled it out of the box, I got nervous.

And then I saw it. The asymmetrical, mullet hemline. Son of a biscuit.... you can see it in the pictures of the other colors online, but in the leopard print the hemline just disappeared.

It actually fits well, and the leopard print is SUPER cute. I had accessorized it in my mind with a big black belt and chunky wedges... but alas. If you don't mind mullet hemlines - it's on sale this week, so get on it!

I, on the other hand, mind mullet hemlines very much and had to return it. Depressing.

I had the idea to chop off the mullet and just keep the dress - but of course, the little slit on the side is waaay too high for my comfort.  Damn.  FOILED AGAIN.

Apparently, Target doesn't want me to be happy.  Sniff.

Next up, I'm in desperate need of a new purse.  And maybe shoes.  And I'm supposed to be doing an Ikea hack with my dad.  Online shopping here I come.

And lest we forget that Memorial Day is an actual holiday (you may forget too if you worked all weekend!), I am very thankful to all the people who keep our country safe, and have an unending debt of gratitude to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

USA!!   USA!!   USA!!

Shopping? What Shopping?

In the midst of paying off newlywed bills and putting myself on a shopping budget (haha?), I may have gone a little shopping crazy last month.  Like, pretty crazy.  For me.

I would say at least 10 packages have graced our doorstep in the past couple of weeks... which explains a lot about the balance on my credit card bill.  Hmm.

However, I am considering all of my purchases justified because my Five-Year College Reunion is in a few weeks, and I feel extremely blah about the whole situation.  As in - I feel like I ate my way through winter and look so pale and horrible.  Please help me.  

Well, I decided to return to my headless ways and take some outfit photos for the blog.  However - I may still have some work to do finding "the perfect spot" in our apartment for outfit photos.  Cause there's a coffee table peeking into some of the pics, and if you want to play "spot the double chin" you may have several minutes of entertainment here.

First up is the Jersey Tank Maxi Dress.  This is NOT a tall size (everything else I ordered is), but it fits my semi-tall self perfectly.  I really do not need another long, black wardrobe item, but it's just SOO soft and I feel like I'll wear the heck out of it.

And please don't judge, but I was suddenly struck by the need to mix it with another item in my order - the Mid-Tone Chambray shirt...

 

Don't laugh at me!  I feel slightly foolish in it.. but I think it works.  It's just so casual, you know?  Never mind the 10 minutes it took me to get it to look just right.  The shirt really needs washed to soften it up, I think.

The next item is the one that made me click and finally get an order in - the Eyelet Shift Dress.  The extra inch or two of length in the tall is perfect on my thighs!

I like the navy above, but I really love the coral below.  Side note: I have NO IDEA what happened to the color of the pic on the right.  It's the left, pinky-coral color.  Although I wouldn't hate on the lipstick red...

Gosh, I think that eyelet dress was just a steal for under $30 (of course I had a coupon code when I ordered).  It's just so springy.

I was really prepared to hate the next item - I got some weird crossover items a couple of months ago that gaped open and just were awful... but looking at the picture below I kind of like the Cross-Front Jersey Dress.

It's kind of my signature color, and the long length is hard to come by.  This one is in the maybe pile.  What do you think?  I thought the higher-waisted dresses from last season made me look 4 months pregnant, but I feel slimmer in this one.

Next up is a skirt I got at an outlet mall in Ohio.  It's a foldover black maxi skirt - which I bought even though my husband would roll his eyes at my needing another maxi skirt for my collection.

And that was before I got the black maxi dress at the top.  I really don't need both, but I'm not driving to Ohio to return the skirt.  What to do....

 Don't mind my awkward styling.  The top is the dark chambray shirt - same style as the mid-tone above.  I believe I'm returning this one... I tend to gravitate towards darker denim, but I think the mid-tone is a bit more versatile. 

The dress below was a TJ Maxx clearance find.  Allll those stripes can be very unflattering, but something about this makes me feel shapely.  For $20 - SOLD.

You guys, shopping is my favorite.  Can I quit my job to be a personal shopper?  Cause it sounds so much more awesome than going to work bright and early this morning, know what I'm saying?

Going to the Gap

I know there have been two things missing on the old blog lately:  headless pictures of me and shopping posts.

Luckily for you - today I've got both!

A couple of weeks ago, I realized my non-work wardrobe was critically lacking... and of course, a quick 40% off sale at Gap was sure to remedy it.

So what did I get?  Excellent question.

I got the Cable cowl scarf in two different colors.  The red wasn't all I was hoping for, so I just kept the black and white.  

 

I got the striped waffle cowl scarf, but I just wasn't feeling it.  I know makeup would end up all over the white part! 

I got a supersoft striped crew and I really just didn't like the way it fit.  If only it were longer! 

And last but not least - the supersoft tunic.  I love this top, but it looked like pajamas to me.  Maybe if it were in a darker color.  And didn't do such weird things to my rack.

I really, really have issues with the fit of Gap these days.  The small talls fit ok, but they end up stretching out and being just a bit too loose for comfort.  If they had an XS tall (which sounds ridiculous to my ears!), I think it would just be the perfect fit.  Regular length in tops is just too short, story of my dang life!

Old Navy has XS talls, but I just can't get over the crappy quality.  

Anybody have a favorite go-to place for basics?  Cause I have struck out big time and my wardrobe is so SO sad.

Help me, I'm poor and have no clothes.

Shop With Me

Hello, lovelies.

So, this is a hectic week.  Mr. RH and I are having engagement photos on Thursday (amen!), and then head up north on Friday to celebrate a dear college friend's wedding.  She is gorgeous, and her wedding is going to be absolutely stunning.  And I'm probably going to cry the whole time because I have exactly 3 months till my big day on her big day.  If that makes any sense.

Today, we have another edition of "Sarah has nothing to say, but damn the girl can shop."  Also known as... please stop talking about your engagement photos that haven't even happened yet.  So... to recap: engagement photo dress, dress for the wedding this weekend. 

Yes, hypothetically I should just use the same dress - but seeing as this is going to be a much-photographed dress, I want each to make a different impression.  Although, I'm so in love (I think!) with the engagement photo dress, I'm kinda confused why I don't just wear the same for both.  Because I like variety!

So, now that we're all on the same page, some of you celebrated with me on twitter last week as TJ Maxx changed my life.  It was... amazing.

Bam.  Little red dress.

It's probably more than I would normally pay for a dress on impulse, but I believe my impulse was correct.  

I've just got one problem - the shoes.  I think the black shoes (above) are fine, but they kind of make the whole look heavier.  They draw your eye down (to where my flaws reside - my thighs) instead of up to my itty bitty waist.  Made all the more itty with some sweet-ass ruching.  (Which looks mis-spelled but it's not!)

The only other shoes I have that are semi-appropriate are these nude shoes... but they're wedges, and not really hot. 

In my mind, a gold/bronze/metallic pump of some sort would really maximize the hotness of this dress.... but I may be completely off base.  It would lengthen my leg a little bit, instead of shorten it with the dark shoes or the shorter, nude wedges (below).

Of course, I've had zero luck finding this perfect shoe... and the time is starting to tick loudly.

Beyond that dress above, I found a dress that might be wedding-worthy.  It was missing the built-in belt so it was on super-clearance.  I felt like I won the lottery.

It's a wee bit snug in the thighs, because shift dresses really don't love me back, but I think it's still super cute... and the pattern distracts from any weirdness in the thighs.

I would probably wear it with black shoes, even though the red are super-hot and I love them long time.

In addition to the red dress at the top, I need a "casual" dress for engagement photos.  Need may be overstating it, but the photographer said to bring 2 outfits minimum.  I'm trying not to fixate on that minimum.

In my mind, I wanted to wear my signature color for the second outfit.  Blue!

Unfortunately, the LOFT dress I had my hopes on was just okay.... and they're all going back.  I thought this was going to be my lived-in summer dress - but it makes me look like a hunchback with terrible posture.

 And the blue and purple were so beautiful!  Weep.

I ordered one other LOFT dress on a whim... thought it was going back, but now I can't decide.

I seem to be on a red kick lately.  WEIRD.

And last but not least, I was ordering something for Mr. RH from Macy's, when lo and behold these two jumped in my cart.  Crazy how that happens!

I love this lace dress, and it's amazing and beautiful - but it just doesn't fit.  But damn if I can't style the dang thing.

And this leopard dress was weirdly big.  And I wanted it to fit SO BADLY.  Because leopard.  And red.  Pitter patter goes my heart.

So, to recap: red dress at top for engagement photos.  Wedding...... ???  Maybe the red and black patterned dress, although I wish it were more springy somehow.  I may or may not stalk TJ Maxx all week in hopes of lightning striking again.

Also, should I take with my scissors to the dress at top, or is the below problem all in my mind?

Can you see the vertical line on each boob?  It's just the lining, and I'm feeling like that's why such a hot dress ended up at TJ Maxx.  I could add a lining in between the layers... or just rip out the bottom layer completely, which is kinda scary.

Woe, to have such life-changing problems.  :)

The Long-Awaited ASOS Order

So, ASOS.  I've seen and heard of the site around before, but I didn't pay too too much attention.  After my last batch of potential engagement picture dresses bombed, I decided measures needed to be taken.  Lo and behold, ASOS was having some Memorial Day promos and I decided to hop on the wagon.

Of course, it was a fantastic sale and I waited a few days before I checked the status of my order.  And it said "Order Cancelled."  WTF.

Come to find out, my credit card company had cancelled the order due to suspicious activity.  Do they even KNOW me?!

Fortunately, ASOS gave me a new promo code (love their customer service!) and I was able to re-submit... but unfortunately, due to the awesome promo, a lot of the sizes I needed were sold out.  Darn it.

I really can't decide what I think of half the dresses.  This is why we don't give ourselves a month of harsh scrutiny to prep for engagement photos.  I would probably have done better with 48 hours notice, done.

And now, the dresses.  I added sizes and prices for reference. 

First up, the ASOS Midi Body-Conscious Dress With Deep V Neck- Black, US8 $27.

 This dress doesn't do much for your body - the body has to do a lot of the work.  Surprisingly though, and maybe it's because of the color, it kinda works.   I even threw it on with the jacket of my obsession and I kind of love it.

Basically all of the dresses I ordered were "midi" length, and it's just slightly too long on me.  I would probably have any of them hemmed a couple inches shorter for maximum awesomeness. 

Next up, ASOS Midi Dress In Animal Print- Print US 8, $61.

Unlike some of the other size 8's I was poured into... this bad boy was huge.  And had a cutout at the back that I didn't realize.  NEXT.

 

Next up, ASOS Midi Dress in Lace, Blue US 8, $41.

This was the one I was probably most looking forward to.... and it sold out in the 10 I was going to order.  I squeezed into the 8, but barely.

Looking at it again, I actually don't hate the way it looks... but boy was it a circus trying to get in and out of it.  It's not even available online anymore... the one that got away.

The next one is quite a bit more casual than the others - we are actually having pictures taken in a downtown/urban-ish setting, and then some taken out in nature... I think this one would fit the "nature" pics a bit more... but dang I wish it were a bit nicer material.  I can see myself wearing this again.

Of course, it's also just about 1 size too small, no larger sizes available in any colors online.  ASOS Midi Dress With Ballet Wrap, Navy US 6 $38

 

Next up, the ASOS Midi Dress with Short Sleeves- Cobalt US 10, $27.

This one also requires your body to do all the work.  I hated it at first, but it's sort of growing on me in pictures.   The last pic is the length I would hem it to, for comparison.

I just wish it were a tiny bit more structured... although, for $27, it could be much worse.

Next up, the cheapest of the bunch, and I think I know why... ASOS Pencil Dress With Cowl Neck Red US 8 $20.

The cowl neck just kinda hangs there.  Overall, I really don't hate it - but it's not awesome, either.  I wonder if a seamstress could just turn it into a V-neck?

I'm really having mixed feelings about the next dress.  ASOS Pencil Dress With Lace Panels Plunge Neck- Jade US 8, $61.

For one thing, it's surprisingly larger than the others.  I love the color and it's really out of my comfort zone.  But the waist needs taken in, and that's what I'm doing with my arm in the last pic.  The middle is of how it rides up when I walk... one of the most annoying things about "pencil" dresses and skirts.

It would also be hemmed a bit so you can see more leg.

I know, scandalous.

This next one I'm having a reeeal hard time with.  ASOS Pencil Dress With Seamed Bust, Navy US 8, $51.60.

In general, I think it's flattering, has a pretty navy color... on the other hand, blah.
Too much boob and some weird underarm fat showing.  Whyyyyy?!

 And last but not least, this really wasn't for engagement pics, but I had to try it.  River Island Tattoo Print Midi Dress-US 8 $24.

At first I hated it, and now I kinda love it.  The belt does help a lot, I think. 

All in all, I don't hate anything, really, except the animal-print dress.  The sizing is inconsistent - the green dress is pretty roomy in an 8 and the blue lace dress basically strangled me in the same size.

Alright, almighty photographer-shopper-style-aholics of the blog world.  What do you think?

I also have a wedding this month that I was hoping to wear one of these dresses for.... so far, I'm striking out so very, very hard.

Loft 'Em and Love 'Em (Or Not)

So, I may have mentioned that I have been on a bit of an online shopping kick, yes?

You see, these damn Friends & Family sales (which they should really rename Friends & SUCKERS sale, cause duh) suck me in every damn time.  Actually, I was doing really good avoiding for a while - but not lately!

Oops.

As usual, my favorite, LOFT, had me from Hello.

Let's see what I ended up with, shall we?

And, for added humor, my feet are cut off in all these pictures.  As a Profeshunal Fashun Blogger, I make it my goal to take only the most lovely pictures and post them.  Hence all the head-cutting-off.  DUH.

First up, the Pretty Waves Tank Maxi Dress.  I really liked this dress.  The pattern, the colors... but something just didn't feel right.  Also it was not particularly arm-flattering.   Especially from the back.

I am especially obsessed with the grosgrain ribbon detail at the waist. 

Don't ask me why I'm not keeping it.  Cause my arms look bad in the pic on the right at the top?  Should I be reconsidering?

So, my favorite current pair of shades are from LOFT.  They're perfection.  However, they're starting to get loose on my head and I know it's only a matter of time before they don't stay on my head anymore.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Colorblocked Square Sunglasses (above) or Vented Round Sunglasses (below) really did me any favors.  Unlike my scary prison-mugshot face that is doing me all kinds of favors.  

Maybe the bottom pair.  I just think they're too big and sit too low on my face.

I really like this next dress, the Wave Print Cap-Sleeve Dress (sold out online, it seems like), but the oatmeal-y color near my face was way, way no-bueno. 

  

So sad, because I really liked the fit and everything else about this dress.  

I snapped up two belts that I believe will be snapped right back to the store.  I wanted to love them both but the striped one was just okay and the metallic braided one is too stiff for my liking. 

Apparently the standards I have for belts are too too high.

And last but not least, I was ordering some ties for Mr. RH from Express and I needed just one more thing to get free shipping.  So of course I found the most expensive item and wasn't going to keep it and now I'm deep in love.



The only thing that makes me a bit hesitant is that it seems a tiny bit snug in the arms.  And the bust, too, if you're looking at the pic on the left. 

Might have to run in and see of they have a size 6 at the store.... with my luck, it will probably be too big.

Anybody else have any major fashion finds lately?  I'm still searching for the perfect outfit for engagement photos.

Yes, I realize having engagement photos only a couple months before the wedding is slightly pointless, but damn if our schedules aren't crazy-full.

Also, LOFT added some new dresses to their website this morning and they're still running 40% off.  Gotta go!

Shopping. Back at It.

So, let's hypothetically you dragged your lazy butt up and took some outfit pics for your blogs.  I use the term outfit cause you're really just trying on a bunch of random pieces to see if they "make it work" for your life, but let's be generous here.

And then you collapse into a puddle because sometimes trying on clothes is hard stuff, especially when you catch an attack of the lazies.

And then, your friend's dad passes away and an outfit blog post seems completely unnecessary and frivolous.

And then you download the photos and you cropped your feet out of every single pic even though you swear you checked yourself halfway through and the whole thing is unintentionally hilarious.  ESPECIALLY because in the interest of better outfit blogging you actually changed your shoes per outfit this time and now you can't even tell.

I swear, kids, this is why we don't try at things.  Just give it a shot and give up.  End scene. 

Kidding.

But I really did crop my feet out of every single photo. And it's awesome.

Today's slew of goodies is all from Target.  I think they must've been running a 20% off code or something, and I had a hard time not buying everything.

Up first is the item I had the highest hopes for, the V-Neck Chevron Maxi Dress.  It just looked perfect online.  Comfy, cute, on-trend (well, there are people already hoping chevron will die a quick death, but whatever.  still trendy.)  But the waist on this falls a little low for me, I think. 

And it might fall a little big on me... but it also felt crazy comfortable.  Therein lies the dilemma.

Next up, the Colorblock Maxi Dress.  I'm really torn on this one, although I liked it from the second I put it on.  Literally didn't want to take it off.  It hits me in a perfect spot, and it fit well and was long enough (score!).

The only problem is... it kinda has the color combo of my favorite outfits from the 6th grade.  Does is scream teenager?  It is in the teenager line of clothes, but I had high hopes.  Do I look like an overgrown 6th grader?

BE HONEST.

Then there's this jacket.  You see, in January, Target had these amazing and cheap shrunken blazers.  But I was being a "saver" at the time, so I didn't buy them.

BIG MISTAKE.  HUGE. 

Anyways, I found this Ponte Boyfriend Jacket and was so excited... but I feel like a career woman from the 80s.  It's just slightly too big and bold for my liking.

However, when I put it over this LOFT dress (spoiler: you gotta see the next outfit post I eventually do!), I kinda fell in love. 

But I know that it was just toying with my emotions, so I said NO to the blazer.  Even though I might go back for the black in a smaller size.   Decisions, decisions.

So, the next two items may invite a bit of internet scorn.  I know it's probably quite tacky for some.. but I just had to check them out.

Back in March, when I attended a Bachelorette Party, I toyed with the idea of getting the bride a Victoria's Secret bride robe.  She's, in my opinion, the type of bride who has loved to soak up every minute of the bride experience, and she looks damn good doing it. 

But $60 for a robe that's basically one-time-only?  Meh.  Wasn't into it.

So when I stumbled on a section of bridal goodies at Target.com.... well, I had to check it out.

Unfortunately, in the week since I've ordered it the whole line is out of stock.  Dang.

The robe was less than $25 and is pretty cute.  Kinda hard to photograph a shiny, blinged out white robe in a dark-ish room by yourself, but there you have it.  Unfortunately I go a Large for some reason and it's a wee bit large.
 

I've seen people wearing these in "getting-ready" photos, but I just didn't feel pretty in it.  Besides the fact that this one was too big, I felt like a giant white marshmallow.

Sooo, instead, I think I'll wear the tank below under a fun, colorful robe.  I know, bedazzled tanks probably went out 5 years ago, but weddings are all about embracing uncomfortable experiences, right?!
 

 Even if I'm the only one who knows I'm wearing it... that's still a little bit fun, right?  Plus, if I'm not as white as a ghost, I might actually feel good in it.  Tank tops never fit in length and this one does.  Winner?!
