Friday=No Fun Day

May I just say, for the record, that Fridays are among my least favorite days of the week.  Because I work retail, Fridays are often (A) one of the first days of my work week, (B) one of the hardest days of the week because teenagers are set loose on my mall en masse and are idiots and (C) because everyone else gets to cut loose and hang out and I don't.

I know, I get days off when everyone else is busy working... but still, there's something about hanging out with your friends on their days off that is really irreplaceable, no matter how many Tuesdays and Wednesdays you don't have to work.

Alas, I actually didn't open up this blog post to complain.  I get to work with one of my favorite girls tonight AND there's an, um, carnival set up in the parking lot of my mall which means I am going to have an excellent time people-watching this weekend for carnies and freaks.

And also.... the change for a surprise funnel cake is just too much to bear.  Ohh, want so much.

  • I finally got plants in the ground.... including for my revamped planters.  Now, if the plants would just grow!

  • I finally wore my new maxi skirt... and didn't take a picture.  But imagine I looked like this:
Mr. RH was into it.  Even after my dad accused me of wearing a muumuu and Mr. RH had to google what a muumuu was.

Then, I got another maxi skirt at Target in my favorite color - cobalt blue.

I wore both of them recently... and after deciding I looked hot in the blue one.... Mr. RH told me that the chevron one is much, much better.

Apparently, I can no longer dress myself best.

I think that's enough for today, right?  I agree.

Happy Friday!!  Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!

Before and Afters

I mentioned on Monday that I can't a project to save my life.  Today's project is.... finished.

Last summer, I turned these pots from faux-cement to faux-bronze, seen below.

They were nice for last year but I was completely bored with them.  The front of my house was looking way too blah.

A pop of spray paint was just what the doctor ordered.
They are a little bit darker, more teal in person.  The color is "peacock" which I think is a perfect description of the color.

Side note: I love LOVE spray paint.  You can do anything with that stuff!

Now, if only ANY garden store within a 20 mile radius would get my daisies in stock... then I'd be all set.  (Well, that's only 50% true.  I was going to mix my potting soil up yesterday but I only slept 4 hours the night before and I thought I might get barfy if I did any heavy lifting.  Tomorrow, perhaps.)

Friends and neighbors, please tell me that gerbera daisies have not gone the way of the dodo bird.  Because seriously, I have been looking EVERYWHERE and they are nowhere to be found.

Also, are the pots too hideous?  My dad has informed me that the neighbors are going to complain cause they're so hideous.  O-kay.

Happy Wednesday!

Indiana Weather is Killing Me

Is it just me, or is this The Worst Allergy Season Ever?

I mean, you dodge a few snow storms and suddenly spring slaps you upside the face with itchy eyes, constant sniffles, and a cough that may or may not eject your lungs.

Anyways, despite horrific allergies, I have been SO enjoying all the bright flowers of this early springtime.  It makes it a lot easier to "jog" through the neighborhood when all the yards look so pretty.

Of course, tonight there is a frost advisory so I will probably be dealing with dead flowers all the live long rest of spring.

Go figure.

It's been such a pretty spring... I'm kind-of afraid what summer's going to bring.  Hopefully zero humidity and perfect 77 degree days.

I'm sure that's going to happen.  RIGHT?

Still on the hunt for black tulips.  I'll let you know if/when I find them.

Wine Wednesday: Non-Drinker Edition

You guys... I'm not sure I can drink alcohol anymore.  Any time I drink, even a very small amount, I toss and turn in bed alllllll night long.  At first I thought I was just waking up to pee or take a drink of water... but eventually I end up staring at the ceiling before I admit defeat in the wee hours of the morning and get up for the day.

Regardless, this has not dimmed my enthusiasm to continue buying wine.  Just drinking it.

This week's wine wasn't even purchased by me, it was purchased by my dad.  He saw it at Trader Joe's in Louisville and ended up making a trip to Indy just to pick it up because I had to have it.

Side note:  Black Tulips.

These sprouted up last spring and I have been dying to find more ever since.  Don't they look so badass?

And yes, I realize they are probably purple and not black.. but black seems way more intense.

So.... anyone know where I can buy black tulips?  I need to plant more in the fall so I can have them everywhere!

Please and thank you.

Happy Wine Wednesday!

What are YOU drinking?

Dee-Eye-Why?

Sometimes, I get it in my head that I'm a homemaker. I start baking things from scratch (everything I've been eating lately), eating organic (zucchini pizza with homemade sauce, anyone?) and doing random projects to beautify the home.

So of course, when the previous owners of the house leave a perfectly good (if a little ugly) set of pots on the front porch, I can't just leave well enough alone, right?

Fortunately, my closet held the ticket to fixing the problem.

Literally.

This is my closet door. Yes, I know I'm a messy disaster.

I hold my not-often-used beauty supplies on the back of my door... and for no reason at all, the top row contains 2 rows of spray paint. Because you never know when you might need to quickly retouch.... yeah, I don't know either.

Anyway. I retrieved the spraypaint and bam, I was on my way to super-domestic status.

I started with the left and ended up with the right.

I'm not sure it was even worth the effort cause I'm not so sure they were meant to be brown.. but oh well.

Now if only my newspaper garden would grow a little bit, I'd be all ready to plant.

I have a feeling this one might be a job for Lowe's though... I dunno if these bad boys will be big enough to plant before summer's over.
