Busy and Brave

Oooof, if I only had an excuse for every single time I disappeared.

This time... it's because I'm too busy jamming out to my new favorite song, Brave by Sara Bareilles.  My employees seem to think I can't get enough of Sara, even if she does spell her name wrong.

They would be correct.

It's not exactly a "jam", per se, but it's definitely my summer jam.  So if you see a blonde in a ponytail singing her heart out in the car.... HI!

Summer Jam, Right This Minute

As an admitted TV-a-holic, I was pretty sad on Sunday to see the series finale of Harry's Law on NBC.

The finale was pretty predictable - lots of love, a little introspective.  But something good did come from the finale.

At the end of the show, the firm was doing karaoke at a bar and several of the ladies sang Some Nights by Fun.  You've probably heard Fun's song We Are Young, but I'd never heard this song before.

I was hooked into the intro, which, to me, sounds like a big old gospel choir (LOVE!).

I am the furthest thing from a musical expert and I know I only like songs that I can sing along to... (hey, it took all my restraint to NOT download Call Me Maybe, ok?)

But you should definitely check out this song.  Cause I've only had it on my iPod for 2 days and I have listened to it 30 times.

It's not like I overdo things, right?  (Unfortunately FUN hasn't made a music video yet, so you get a super-awesome lyric video.  Awesome!)

I think I love it cause it fits perfectly with my current mid-twenties crisis.  "Oh Lord, sometimes I'm still not sure what I stand for, oh".... oh, how I relate to this.

Merry Christmas II You: An Official Review

Updated to Add: Umm well clearly my finger is on the pulse today cause Mr. Mariah Carey just confirmed that she's pregnant with twins. Umm, amazing! Congratulations to the sweet family!

As a connoisseur of Mariah Carey from her earliest days, I am a bit of an expert on all things Mariah.

This might disturb a great number of you.. but just hang in there. I found Mariah at a time in my life when I was just waiting for a hero to come along... with the strength to carry on... I'm sorry, what was I saying?

Anyways, I was super-pumped when Mariah released Merry Christmas II You this year.

And without further ado, my review, song by song:

1. Santa Claus is Coming to Town Intro. Why do they waste my time with intros? It's just confusing.
2. Oh Santa! This is the "single" from this Christmas album and it's definitely a keeper. Sure, her voice isn't what it used to be but you'll get this number stuck in your head for sure.
   
3. O Little Town of Bethlehem & Little Drummer Boy Medley. Little Drummer Boy is one of my least favorite Christmas songs... but this song is sorta-sweet. I usually listen to half before skipping to the next song.
   
4. Christmas Time is In the Air Again. In general, I'm just not a fan of the song. She sounds alright but it's just not my speed. Too slow for my tastes, I think...
   
5. The First Noel & Born is the King Interlude. I hate when we mix songs. Can't we just sing them individually?
   
6. When Christmas Comes. This song is okay. A jazzy little number, even if her voice is a wee bit screechy. But for some reason it's just not catchy enough for me to love.
   
7. Here Comes Santa Claus -- Housetop Celebration. A little party number complete with full-blown house party in the background. This song has a little rap, a little hip-hop. WIN! I always crank this one and probably look strange in traffic. Whatever!
   
8. Charlie Brown Christmas. I've never made it through the whole song... cause I thought it was instrumental. Turns out she does sing in the middle. But it doesn't matter, cause I'm not listening to it.
   
9. O Come All Ye Faithful -- Hallelujah Chorus. This song is nice, although I think if it were a tiny bit more upbeat it would have been perfect. I love Mariah with a choir, not gonna lie. Yes, some of her high notes should be illegal but we all already knew that.
   
10. O Holy Night, Live. Mariah in her heydey. WIN! I put this one on repeat.
    
11. One Child. Has this song been done before? Was it on her last Christmas album?? Cause it seems very familiar...
    
12. All I Want for Christmas is You, Extra Festive Version. Let's be honest, this is why I bought this CD. The Christmas classic cranked up with a hip-hop beat. I especially like the end of the song for some reason...
    
13. Auld Lang Syne -- The New Year's Anthem. Ok, this was a total unexpected WIN! Not gonna lie, the first time I heard this song I burst into tears in the first minute... and then it went into the hip-hop beat? Amazing!
    

So folks... let's hope you all can forgive me for my horrible taste in music.

It's really just a part of my charm.

Sing Me a Song!

Back in the 80s, when I was a wee one, we had this toy electronic phone. If I remember correctly, it used two or three D batteries, which is equivalent to a car battery today.

Depending on which number you dialed on the phone, it would say a different phrase. My favorite (for unknown reasons) was: "Hi, this is Mommy. Sing me a song."

To this day, that phrase randomly pops into my mind all.the.time. Weird, right? Clearly I liked that damn phone a lot.

(And dang you google image for failing me. Can't find a picture of this phone anywhere.)

Ok, have I lost you yet? Anybody?

So my iPod needs a little lift. I added some new songs but not enough to motivate me to run or walk for nearly as long as I need to be doing.

So... if I share my favorites - will you share yours? Pretty please with sugar on top?

A new Mariah Carey Christmas album.

And according to her rep or gossip blogs or somebody else... Mariah is set to release a new album with a new version of "All I Want for Christmas" plus some new recordings of old songs and a few new songs.

I could not be more excited.

Today, I'm turning up the sound system all the way until the neighbors complain and I'm listening to my favorite Christmas song.

"All I Want for Christmas" by Mariah Carey is, in my opinion, the best Christmas song ever.

I love the whole Merry Christmas album by Mariah Carey - but that song's the best.
