Fashion Crisis. Please Advise.

All hands on deck, fashionistas. Sarah's an idiot.

Ok, so I am attending a wedding on September 18th in Nashville. The wedding is in a cathedral at 7:30 pm. Heh, I totally overlooked that. Thought it was afternoon. I'm an idiot.

I impulse-purchased this dress the other day at TJ Maxx...

It's cute... but the thing is, it's cotton. Like a cotton/spandex - almost like a thick legging.

So... it's too informal for an evening wedding, right?

I should be wearing silk or some such fabric, right?

I need dress suggestions asap... or styling suggestions if you feel so inclined... considering I leave for the wedding a week from Thursday.

Nothing like leaving everything for the last minute!

Go, fashionistas, go!

I don't think you wear black to a wedding right? or is that only day time weddings? I'm not quite sure what the exact rule is but I love the dress anyways.

I like the dress, black for a nighttime wedding always works. I would just kick up the shoes a bit! Maybe something in a different color? A fab bracelet/earing combo would kick the cotton dress up a notch too! looking good lady!

Maybe it's just me but I wear black to weddings all the time. I'm not one to stick too closely to fashion rules.

But I do feel like a summer cotton dress is too casual for an evening wedding in September. Maybe.

Oh weddings. I love them and I hate them.

Love that dress, but you're right.. for an evening wedding it's not formal enough. I personally like these, though you may not.. depends on your comfort level!

If you wear that dress, you will need a wrap or something for the church service. Its nice, but a little too informal for an evening wedding I would go back to TJmaxx and look for something a little dressier

I think it's dressy enough - you just need a nice wrap and some sparkly jewelry.

I think a night time wedding gives you the opportunity to kick it up a notch! What other time do we get to dress up, right? How about some of these?

I think no black is only for daytime weddings. I LOVE this dress and think it looks very dressy! Great for nightime wedding!

Honestly? I think wear whatever the heck you want. Who cares! It's 2010, no one listens to rules anymore! :) At least I don't...

I love the dress and you look fab in it, so I say wear it!

Just came to your blog from Twitter and while I'm not exactly a "fashionista" I say that dress is fine. Maybe throw a pashmina or something and do closed toe shoes to dress it up a bit. I like the dress though. Very classic!

My opinion - dress it up with some fancy shoes, jewelry and a clutch and it will work just fine.

However, it occurs to me that perhaps this post is written in hopes that the interwebs will justify a new dress purchase. (I'm not the only one who does that, right?) In that case, nope not dressy enough. You must find something else. :) hehe

Enjoy the wedding!

Cover your shoulders up for the church service, and maybe throw on some fun shoes and jewelry, and you're good. The dress is definitely fine!

You could probably get away with that dress if you dressed it up more with your shoes and accessories. Also, I don't see any reason why you can't wear black to a wedding, especially an evening one in a cathedral.

I really like this dress. I think it could work. Maybe put a sweater over it or something. I would go for it!

I think most people will be dressier than you, so I'd probably grab something else or find something different in your closet. more cocktail attire.

I love that dress but I think the cotton material might be a little too informal especially for a 7 o clock wedding. I would look for a something a little more dressy.

I am NOT a fashionista, not even in the slightest, so no advice from me. But I will say that dress is adorable and it looks great on you. Even if you don't wear it to the wedding, I say keep it because you look fabulous!

Sara said...

The black dress is super cute and looks great on you, but not dressy enough for an evening wedding. Plus, who wants to pass up the opportunity to wear something fancy?!

I think these are great styles that work well for an evening wedding and will work for a lot other 'event' type stuff later on.

I might dress up a little more (probably wear just a dressier LBD), but I would def keep that one! It's so cute and I'm sure it was a good deal!

I actually think it's totally appropriate for an evening wedding! You could glitz it up with some chunky jewelry and a cute, bright colored cardigan for when you are inside the church. It's black too, which is always perfect for a semi-formal event! I say, proceed with this dress as planned : )

I probably would wear something more "cocktail" to an evening wedding. With it being a Catholic wedding (I'm assuming), you can always bring a pashmina to drape over your shoulders, so they aren't bare. That's what I'd do. I do like the dress though, but I feel you need a dressier fabric. Hope that helps!

You look good in everything, but I'm not so sure that dress is meant for an evening wedding.
