Closet Intervention

Recently, I have been inspired. I have been inspired to clean up my act.

Or at least my closet.

You see, I love my stuff. Clothes, new underwear, shoes, beauty products... you name it, I've got it. Seriously.

So when I arrived home from college with, um, more junk than I knew what to do with... I knew things had to change.

How did I know?

First sign: See that shelf in the closet? See how it is attached to the closet rod via some type of white bracket thing?? (And please, ignore the "Dusty Rose" carpet. It was 1994 and I guess I wanted pink carpet?)

Ok good. Well, one day not so long ago, when I wasn't home, my brother awoke to what he thought was an attempted break-in. But it wasn't a break in. It was the weight of my clothing on the hanging rod pulling down the entire contents of the shelf above, which at the time included about 52-bajillion scrapbooked baby books and my entire life's worth of hardback yearbooks. Oops.

So I recently set about to sort through the clothes and purge the clothes from the 7th grade.

I honestly refuse to post a before picture because I couldn't even fit all the clothes in the closet.

But the after picture? 'Tis lovely (at least to me).

From left to right I've got sweatshirts/jackets, followed by shirts organized by color, followed by pants, followed by skirts, followed by dresses. Perfection, I tell you.

Now if only I could find a way to fit an additional three or four dozen pairs of shoes in there, I'd be set.

Work for another day, I suppose...

haha the rug in my bedroom is the same color... and has been that way since I was 3!! Seemed like a good choice at the time back in 1986...lol

Great job! I used to organize by color but found that it didn't work for me. Now I organize by type of outfit (dressy/going out/causal) and within that by type of clothing (pant vs shirt, sleeve length, button downs, collars, etc.). I use the hangers where you can hang 3 on 1 - perfection! Without them, I wouldn't be able to fit all my clothes in my closet!

It looks great! I am obsessed with organizing and the Container Store. Although they are $$$! It looks great...I need to go through mine and I may just donate a lot of it to goodwill b/c I haven't worn some stuff I have hanging up in years! Thanks for the motivation!

I totally organize my shirts by color. I also subdivide them by sleeve length. I am that anal retentive. I'm still working on setting up the closet at the new house, but when I'm done, I'll have to post a pic!
