Naturally, I'm an Artist

Yesterday, I mentioned that Mr. RH had moved into a new apartment.  Which, in my mind, meant one thing: sweet, let's buy some new crap to decorate.

About 30 seconds after I spent my whole paycheck at Target (what, you'd do it too!), I realized that I had to slow my roll.  Not to mention, Mr. RH was somewhat less amused at the mounds of crap I was toting into the place (usually while he wasn't home, duh I'm not stupid).

So then I remember that, in college, I was quite the budding artist.  And by "quite" I mean "not at all."

I decided that I wanted to paint some fun canvases to decorate the big, white walls of Mr. RH's new place.  So, of course, I went Hobby Lobby crazy.  Damn if I can't walk into there without spending $50 on crap I wasn't even looking for.

After a while, I had a bunch of blank canvases piled up in my bedroom... so I decided it was time to take action.

I had seen some cute pictures of multi-canvas pictures that looked really cool... and decided that was my plan.  Of course, Mr. RH didn't like the giant puffy-glitter heart I had in mind... so I decided that some manly tree was the way to go.

So.... I drew my branches.

Immediate response in my head: damn, I'm an artist!  Second response: crap, what next?

Next step:  leaves, cause they're manly.  Ehh, let's add flowers while we're at it.

Thought: um, this tree is quite sparse and that's a lot of empty blue canvas.

Hey, let's just add more branches.  Like, everywhere.

PANIC PANIC, what have I done this looks like crap!

Oh wait, just add more flowers. They fix everything.

Well crap, now how did my manly tree painting turn out?  Hmm, everything is starting to smear, let's let it dry a bit before we finish.

Cut to present day, 14 days later.  Still haven't finished the damn thing, STORY OF MY LIFE.

80% is the new 100% finished, RIGHT?

Am I the only one who can't finish a craft to save my life?  Mostly because I'm afraid?

Tell me I'm not the only one.

Hold me, I need to finish this damn thing cause it's stressing me out.

I never finish crafts I start because I get mad that they don't look like how I envision them...because I am Picasso in my brain.

I really like what you are doing with this print, so don't give up on it!

Replace that awful "art" with some hot lingerie pics of yourself. Like he'd want to look at some gay paint-by-numbers trees with flowers on them 24/7...

I've never been very artsy, so I typically stay away from painting or drawing! My skills are sorely lacking. I'm the one who frames photos to make artistic arrangements in the halls, which is pretty much what I did at my boyfriend's place!

Hahaha - I know how it goes with half finished crafts. Story of my life - but actually, your painting looks like it could be finished! I like the simpleness and I think you did a really good job!

Hahaha! I do the same thing! I'm not artsy fartsy at all. Painting is not my gig. The wall behind our couch has stacked picture frames & vases b/c I haven't gotten around to finishing what I thought looked good 3 weeks ago. At least you tried, & it doesn't look bad!

Haha! Okay, so one - I dont think this looks that bad and two - I am completely in the same craft boat. Leave it as is before you overdo it!

You could always paint over it white and start over.

Or, like a lot of college boys, nail an ugly blanket to the wall.

Haha, this made me laugh because that's me! I'm starting to question if there is anybody out there who can. Maybe those people are like the president of countries.

I think it's cute. It's not like it's going in a museum. It's fine for his apartment!

Have you been to Wine & Canvas? Girl, it's EXACTLY what you need to do! Get a glass of wine, blank canvas, paints and brushes. The instructor walks everyone step by step on painting a masterpiece to take home. Great for a date or girls night out. They're on the north side of Indy, but also have classes at bars all around town.

I love them!!! I saw something similar on Pinterest where they used the bottom of a 2-liter to make the flowers. I have it marked as one of my crafts I'd like to do one day!!!

At least you TRIED it! Good for you! I'm not artistic at all so I applaud all efforts, finished or not.
