The Classy Bookshelf

Before Mr. RH dropped into my life, I was on a serious reading spree. Something about sun and summertime makes reading even more appealing.

I got Lies Chelsea Handler Told Me and read it in less than 48 hours. Chelsea is too funny!! I loved Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea but haven't read Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang.

I picked up this next one from the endcap at Half-Priced Books in Indy and I'm glad I did. The Girls from Ames is a story about a large group of friends and their 40-year-friendship.

I really enjoyed this read, and I love any books about women and friendship. So beautiful.

This book was highly recommended by... everyone, with special shout outs to Pink Sass and Mojito Maven.

I picked up Divergent and couldn't put it down!! This book is definitely reminiscent of The Hunger Games and I found it just as enjoyable. When does the next book come out?! (Not until next year! BOOO!)
Last but not least, somebody recommended Laurie Notaro to me. I can't for the LIFE of me figure out who it was, but I must thank you.

Laurie writes hilarious books about her life... and I am obsessed. I've purchased all the books she's published so far and can't wait to dig into more of them!!

I've got some vacation time coming up in the next couple weeks and I can't figure out what else I need to be reading... what's on YOUR bookshelf, ladies?

Hit me with your best beach reads!

I've been reading the Carrie Diaries and Summer in the City by Candace Bushnell. If you like Sex and the City, I recommend these. Carrie Diaries wasn't the best but it was interesting to read about Carrie's high school days. happy reading!

I'm reading the girls from Ames book right now and I think it'd dreadful. It's obviously written by a journalist who's missing his creativity bone. I think it's incredibly dry. I am forcing myself to finish it before I move on to Divergent!

I've been reading through the Harry Potter series the last couple of weeks. :P

I'm really trying not to spend more money on books right now. I hate paying for a book and then being finished with it in a day. I do need some new stuff, though...

I heard Borders is going out of business. I may have to take advantage of the situation...

I really liked Girls from Ames too! I couldn't get into it at first whenever I would pick the book up, but I loved it once I finally did. Did you read The Help? I feel like you did, but if you didn't, GO READ IT NOW. Also really cute was The Pastor's Wife by Jennifer Allee. I got it for free on my Kindle, but I already read it a 2nd time - super cute!

Love Drunk Cowboy by Carolyn Brown.... if you're into the super cheezy goofy romance genre. I think it's a perfect beach read, but I have a soft spot for goofy cowboy romances! This one has definitely kept me entertained, though. Enjoy your vacation days!

I loved reading all of Chelsea's books but Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang was my least favorite. But I DO love her. I kinda want to be besties with her in real life. Is that weird?

Don't answer that.

As I'm probably Laurie Notaro's No. 1 fan, I probably recommended her to you at some point along the line! Glad you loved that one -- and her newest book is out... now? Or in August? ...okay, maybe I'm not her No. 1 fan, since I don't know that, haha. But her latest memoir is out very soon!

A gay here. Enjoying your blog. Please AVOID "Bang Bang" ... you'll be disappointed. "Vodka" is terrific (my favorite chapter being "Jumped"), but "Bang Bang" relies too much on the 'practical joke' patterns of "Lies Chelsea Told Me" - and a few chapters are just email chains between her and other people. Not interesting. Skip it.
