Books and Movies

This past weekend, I saw Water for Elephants.

I had read the book a few months back and I have to say... I was kind of lukewarm about it. It's a great story, don't get me wrong. I just wan't into it. For some reason I have a harder time "getting into" stories that are written from the male point of view.

It was good and enjoyable, I just didn't love it.

The movie?

Love.

I loved the movie. My friend and I were completely spellbound. For the first time in... ever? - I enjoyed the movie more than the book. I know, I know. Crazy.

-------------------------

Meanwhile, I have been reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. It is definitely not my usual frothy Chick Lit book... but in a way it is. Frothy historical fiction, if you will. A love story.
The thing about these books is HOLY COW they are LONG! I have never ever been one to complain about a book being too long (unless it's boring) but man, each of these books is 800 pages. I'm currently on the 4th book (of 6) and have been reading the series exclusively since March 22nd - over a month!

I love them but wow... long. Definitely not for you if you're a slow reader.

I have 2 more Outlander books to go - but I'm planning ahead and I know my bookshelf is way too empty once I finish these couple books.

What else should I be reading? I've had suggestions for Black Heels to Tractor Wheels so that's on my list... but otherwise, I'm fresh out.

Suggestions? Read anything good lately? Or ever? I love old books too - what's your favorite?

-------------------------
Meanwhile, if you follow me on twitter you might know that I've been undertaking a craaaazy diet to help fix some crazy symptoms I've been having lately. I have zero energy for anything so forgive me if posting is spotty for the immediate future. I'm hoping to feel better soon!

Happy Tuesday!

I saw the movie this weekend too. I loved the movie, but I thought some scenes were really hard to watch. I felt so bad for the animals! But great movie non the less. Feel better soon!

I’ve heard Black Heels to Tractor Wheels is really good; it's on my list too. I want to see Water for Elephants but heard in the story the elephants were mistreated not sure my pregnancy hormones could handle that...is that part bad?

I just finished Water for Elephants, and loved it! I can't wait to see the movie. I love me some Reese Witherspoon...

I just started reading The Help the other night. Halfway through the first chapter I was already sucked in! I'm only in the fourth chapter right now, but it's a great read so far.

Have you read The Time Traveler's Wife? I liked that a lot, but some people didn't. I recently read Room, and LOVED IT. Also, one of my favorite books of all time has been The Mercy of Thin Air. Haunting and beautiful and romantic...

I completely agree with you on Water for Elephants. It was the first movie in awhile that I liked more than the book.

Just finished Black Heels to Tractor Wheels- read in one day. You won't be able to put it down!

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed Water For Elephants more than the book - I really didn't enjoy the book.

I've heard great things about the Outlander series - not sure if I'm up to the heft right now, I'm sure I'll get around to them eventually.

Have you read the Time Travelers Wife? It's one of my favorites from the last 10 years or so. All the Barbara Kingsolver books are great too - Bean Trees & Pigs in Heaven are the best, in my opinion.

Being a chick lit fan, have you read Jane Green's "Promises to Keep"? I just finished it and was blown away how sweet and sad it was at the same time. And as a bonus, there's recipes at the end of each chapter! definitely worth checking out!

I cannot WAIT to see Water for Elephants! I loved all the Outlander books. I read them my senior year of high school, and it seriously took me a year to read them. It was kinda ridiculous.

As far as books - have you read The Lincoln Lawyer? I'd say add it to the list.

I *adore* the Outlander series. I think I'm on the 5th or 6th one - so amazing. I love the long book because you can really get into it!

I just read WFE after hearing y'all talk about it on Twitter so much. Good book, but I agree with you, not the best thing ever. I don't feel like I fell in love with any character. They weren't developed enough to me. Make sense? But you can bet I'll be seeing that movie soon!
