Chicago, Let's Get This Over With.

Ok, I gotta finish this whole Chicago thing before I drop dead and never finish my dang story.

After a long day in Chicago that involved walking a giant square around the whole city (in flip-flops, in the freezing cold, uphill both ways in the snow)... we got cupcakes.

And not just any cupcakes - Sprinkles Cupcakes.
I had heard (probably on a blog somewhere) that Sprinkles were the gold standard of cupcakes. To say I was excited was an understatement.

We grabbed a box to-go and took them home to celebrate.

We picked two red velvet, one carrot cake, one vanilla, one chocolate, and one black/white. It was probably nearing closing time at the shop so I think that might be why we didn't have any wild selections.

So, how were the cupcakes?

I'm not sure I loved them. I know, the horror. They were extremely dense and delicious.. but I'm just not in love with the frosting. It was okay, but I was hoping for something a bit creamier.

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't shatter anyone's dreams of Sprinkles Cupcakes.

To make up for a so-so experience from Sprinkles... we woke up bright and early the next day and had to try the cinnamon rolls at the Ann Sathers Cafe.

To. die. for. Creamy & delicious and perfect in every way. I was completely stuffed after these bad boys.

Oh yes, and in my post from the other night I forgot to show you one of my birthday gifts. Cute, isn't it?

Ok, Chicago's done. I'm done.

Off to do some stress eating before work. It's only Wednesday and it feels like it's been a long week!

I feel the same way about Sprinkles! Like, I'm supposed to love them, but, I don't. Sads.

Still in love with your coat, fyi.

I can't remember the name of the cupcake shop I went to in Chicago, but it wasn't Sprinkles. It was a little shop by Harpo Studios that Oprah raved over. Not to say that whatever she says is truth, but oh my, were those cupcakes delish. And I agree about the Sprinkles frosting. It seems a little more powdered sugar than creamy.

I dream of visiting Chicago.

Now I'll be dreaming of those cinnamon buns in Chicago. ;)

I've been enjoying all your Chicago recaps! Sprinkles ARE good...they are not the best I've had and for $3.50 a cupcake it's steep. I usually get the dark chocolate :)

Such a cute post. Sorry to hear the cupcakes weren't up to par but it seems the cinnamon rolls made up for it! Looks like a fun birthday gift, hope you'll enjoy :)

I don't think their cupcakes are very good either. I really expected MUCH better after all the hype.

Don't worry Sarah I wasn't too impressed by Sprinkles...maybe I put too much pressure on the cup cake, but I got a sugar headache from the icing. A quarter of a cup cake is enough for a day.

Oh the horror! I have been looking forward to tying Sprinkles cupcakes when the husband and I finally make it to Chicago in a few months. So much for that plan! At least you warned me so I wasn't thoroughly disappointed after months of waiting.

Now I'm off to hunt down Oprah's favorite cupcake place...

I know what you mean - I tried Sprinkles cupcakes once, and I wasn't crazy about them. But the cinnamon rolls look divine!

I had Sprinkles cupcakes while visiting L.A. last year and loved them, but my friends were less than convinced! I got a pumpkin spice variety (but of course!) and thought it was delicious. Everyone else was a little overwhelmed by the sheer... size of it, I guess. And density. Density is a good word.

I was in Chicago last weekend and we bought a dozen cupcakes at Sprinkles. We tried all the flavors you did. along with several more. I really liked them. :)
