Fashion Crisis, Revisited

Everyone had an opinion about the casual dress but in my heart I just knew it wasn't dressy enough.

I think.

So I bought this dress at White House Black Market yesterday. Very red and very satin-y.

When I tweeted it nobody seemed to like it. Also, they demanded real-life pics.

What the people want the people get.

The bow belt is a little out of control.. it needs pinned or tacked down but it's not as.... bad as it looks in the website photo. I think.

The one problem with the bow belt is that it's too loose. So I switched it to an old Express belt I had in my closet. It felt cinched much tighter. I think I look a wee bit tinier in the waist with this second belt.

This is a lot more than I'd usually spend for a dress for a wedding. $168. And thing is - it's so memorable could I ever really wear it again??

And then I have the age-old sheath problem - at least for me. It rides up on my thighs and saddlebags. I mean... it's fine when I'm posing for pictures... but in moving it can get all jacked up.

(Also, is it too loud for a wedding? Will I upstage the bride with my awesomeness?)
(It's not really possible because she's amazing.. but still. This dress is not quiet.)

What do you think, internet dispensers of awesome advice?

I'm freaking.

(And I made this plan in my head yesterday. I drive from Indy to Nashville for this wedding. I will be passing a couple outlet malls and large shopping centers. Maybe make a few steps along the way and see if I find anything better/cheaper. Bring extra shoes and accessories for backup. For real, am I out of control or am I out of control?)

Tell me what to do. Thank you in advance.

I love it! But, with the second belt definitely. I think it's good for a wedding. The bride will still outshine everyone else...

This dress is definitely perfect for a wedding! Its GORGEOUS! You were right on with the belt too, huge improvement. Looks great!

I love it.
And no dress will ever outshine the bride, so don't even worry about that.
But... Green Hills in Nashville has fabulous shopping so you could always bring it and see if you find another something lovely. :)

I love it. The second belt looks fabulous.

I love it! It looks fabulous. Like the second belt too. You could always send the dress to me if it doesn't work out or something. Whatever. Just sayin'.

I actually love the dress! I agree, the second belt looks better. You could totally wear it again...especially if you make it look different with tights and a sweater.

I like this dress. It is pretty and looks great with the second belt! But, I wouldn't want to spend that much on a dress that I wasn't comfortable walking around in. Also, I think people will remember it but that isn't a terrible thing! I would definitely take it with me as a backup plan though. Shop along the way and if you don't find anything then you will have a perfect fall back dress!!

Love the dress! Second belt definitely. It would kill me to spend that much on a dress but that is just me! You look fabulous though!!

I LOVE the second dress especially with the second belt.

Definitely not too loud or anything for a wedding...it's not white after all :)

I love the dress too! I think it's fine to wear to a wedding. It's colorful, but not loud or obnoxious or inappropriate or attention-stealing or anything like that! It looks amazing on you! I love it. Wear it. End of discussion.

Now onto shoes and bag and jewelry. Spill the beans.

Def love it and esp. with second belt. Just shop and if you happen to see something else get it and if not that dress is perfect for a wedding :)

I love it! I even love it with the first belt and think it looks even fancier with it. Wear it!

I love it!! And, you're right, the second belt looks better!!

I completely agree that the second belt looks better than the first. Not that the first belt isn't cute, but with the "loudness" of the dress, the bow belt is just a bit overdone. Perhaps it could be worn with a plainer dress?

I tend to wear solid colors to weddings, and I haven't a clue why I've always done that? BUT..I dont' think this dress is too much at all :) Have a wonderful time!

I would go with this dress. It's so beautiful. Use the second belt though, the first isn't as flattering.

I love this dress! It is perfect for an evening wedding!

I love the dress as well, especially with the second belt. The dress has a print and the first belt doesn't help anything. I don't think the dress is too loud and you can add other accessories to make it a little different each time.

I say go for it!

I think it's gorgeous!! I'd go with the second belt as well. But you sound exactly like me with the planning on stopping on the way to the wedding...I'm never satisfied and always make elaborate plans like that. :)

Definitely the second belt!

i say go for it, with the second belt.

stop at those outlets on your way down, though. you might find a fabulous buy that will make you feel amazing. if you do, return the red. if you don't, then wear it well, knowing you'll look stunning.

and i think you can re-wear the red often in the winter (think: valentine's day, or paired with a long black cardigan, or over top of a black turtleneck with tights and boots).

it's definitely a daring piece, but one that you'll get a lot of wear out!

oh I love the dress!!! I like both belts really. But would go with whichever is more comfy.

I wouldn't worry about the print. It's a night wedding, right??

I love the dress but most definitely with the second belt. I also wouldn't worry about wearing it again. A dress that gorgeous deserves to be worn more than once. You could also make it a super cute pencil skirt later if you want to get more use out of it!!! XOXO

I like it in all the different pictures. It's pretty on you, and you can just wear it with different belts or no belt to switch up for another occasion.

O.M.G. I couldn't even finish reading this post because I was distracted by how awesome this dress is on you!!! I can't even believe you are considering not keeping it! And I LOVE it with the bow - it totally takes the dress up a notch.

I really liked the other dress, but I'm not a big print person. It is cute and I like the colors.

I love this dress with both belts! If you are already worried about it riding in areas AND the bow belt being loose, then I would wear the second belt so you aren't worried about it. This is also a dress you could definitely wear more than once!

This dress is perfect for a wedding! I can't believe you had nay sayers!

I LOVE this dress! The 2nd belt looks amazing with it and you're right, makes your waist look smaller. If you're worried about being able to wear it again...sell it--either here or on Ebay! You obviously have some loyal bloggies here that would be interested I'm sure! :)
