Hey Punkin'

Halloween has always been big business in our house. Since I was a little girl, my mom hand made our costumes almost every year.

Following with that theme, pumpkins were a big deal in our house - and everyone pitched in to help.

In the early days, my brother and I could only be trusted to do guts removal.

But apparently, once you became a 10-year-old you were able to be trusted with those little orange knives.

Predictably, I chose the cuddly designs while my brother chose the scary designs. I think that trend carried through our entire childhood.

And then there was one legendary pumpkin - it had the neighbors runing for their cameras.

"Scary Caray."

(For those of you who didn't get the reference, that would be Harry Caray - of the Chicago Cubs). It's pretty clever, isn't it?

I felt the pressure this year to deliver something good... but let's be honest, creativity isn't my forte. One turned out good, one.... well, it was a good effort.

What do you think?

Ok, so I'm not exactly a pumpkin master... but they took a long time and I gave it my best shot. That's what counts, right?

Did you (or do you still) carve pumpkins? Do you use fancy carving kits or create your masterpiece freestyle??

P.S. The poor picture quality would be due to the fact that I took pictures of pictures. Oops.

I love your pumpkins! We did carve a pumkin this year... in my opinon, it's just not halloween until I've carved a pumpkin! Sometimes we get really creative but this year we just carved an ole school jack-o-lantern!!

Those are some great pumpkins!! This is the first year that the kids showed no interest in carving them. I kinda miss it, but I'm allergic to the "guts" so maybe it's not a big deal....

those are some awesome pumpkins. I use to paint pumpkins as a child and rarely ever carved them. Last year the boy and I carved pumpkins and it was a blast. We decided to keep the tradition and carve again this year. Even if mine look weird it was still so much fun!

My family used to carve pumpkins every year-- we created our own designs. I loved taking the seeds out and baking them! It's been too long since I last carved a pumpkin (3 years ago), which is here http://mindymerenghi.blogspot.com/2009/10/wordless-wednesday.html.

What adorable pumpkins! I want to carve one, but I probably won't have the energy to do it all this week. I'm afraid my dog would start eating the pumpkin anyway. :(

Your pumpkins are fantastic. I carved one this year that had purple sparkle aviators. But then it rained, the purple paint disappeared, and my pumpkin ended up looking like a cyclops more than anything else. You win big time!
