Houston, We Have a Hair Product

When I first read Ashley's comment about my beauty routine, I was excited. I love to talk about some products. When I read the next line, "especially what hair products you use because your hair always looks amazing" I laughed out loud.

Ok, the truth is, I've had some good hair.

But I took a good half-hour to find those photos and they are from my sweet 16, HS graduation, and college senior formal. Considering the six year span of these photos, it means that there were a lot of average-hair days in between.

The truth is, I am genetically cursed with flat, limp hair. I don't have a lot of hair, and it is super fine. It has zero texture, which means if I wash and go it is flatter than a pancake as soon as it dries.

But, I don't give up.

These products are just about half of my hair arsenal. In fact, I started to grab more products but then I realized they wouldn't really fit in the picture if you wanted to be able to identify them.

So my hair routine consists of a very basic shampoo and conditioner, followed by a product or two. I usually use one strengthening or conditioning product combined with a heavy dose of volumizing product.

I wish I knew the tricks for a good blowout, but I don't.
I blow-dry upside-down with a big flat paddle brush. Yes, I know that round brushes create volume and blah blah blah but they just end up tangled in my hair.

That's another thing - my hair tangles like there is no tomorrow. My hairdresser (who has cut my hair since birth) always remarks that she "forgot just how snarly" my hair is.

To create a lot of volume, I usually curl my hair all over with a curling iron and then brush it out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

To create the curly updo (like in the top right photo), I curl my hair with foam rollers, spray gel, and a blow dryer. Then I just basically pull it back into a ponytail.

To be honest, my hair looks like this most days:
In my opinion, the standout, concerning my hair, is the color. It's a combination of good genes and good highlights, I guess.

Ok, I think everyone now knows way too much about me and my hair.

What are your favorite hair products? Do you have a special tip or trick you use to style your hair?

Remember, every comment this week earns you a chance to win some fabulous spa products.

Happy Wednesday!! Now tell me about your hair!!

I have the opposite- thick, unruly, and brunette!! I still do the same routine as you- minus the volumizing! Also, I never ever leave my house with my hair wet from the shower... what a complete horror! I look like medusa.

To tell you the truth I dont even know how to blow my hair myself. I just let it dry after shampooing and brush it with a big comb. Air dry, freaky isn't it? That's why I visit a salon once a week, I guess.

My hair is fine, but I have a lot of it -- I also dry my hair up-side-down to get volume -- I'm able to use a round brush because my hair is short --

I only put mouse in my roots to keep it lifted - I can't use too many products because it weighs my hair down - I happen to love Bumble and Bumble --

My hair is super thick which is also really annoying. I have the opposite problem when it drys on it's own it gets all poofy and frizzy...NOT in a good way. I fix it with a good ol' fashion blow dryer and a straighter!

p.s. Your hair looks great in all the pics (even the second ones) so you must be doing something right!

I hear that having highlights your hair is less able to become frizzy. I recongnize alot of your haircare products and how is the Fekkai? I have heard of it but have never tried it before.

i have really fine/thin hair as well. on the weekends for fun i like to put in clip in extensions. during the work week now that i have fairly short hair i use a round brush. it took me a long time to figure out how to use the thing but now i love it ;)

My hair is naturally wavy and fairly frizzy. I blow it out most days but when I am running late or on the weekends I pull it back or let it air dry. My favorite product is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny smoothing serum. I also use a volumizing foam and heat protectant.

I'm a fan of Redkin #10 & the Curl line from Fekkai. My number one hair secret is velcro rollers- They will change a girl's life!

Thanks so much for doing this post, Sarah. You are definitely Fab. ;)

I have super fine hair that doesn't do a thing. I've learned to work with it and not against it, and if I'm leaving it down I always wear it straight. I've tried a million products and this is what works best for me:

Clairol Shimmering Lights Blonding Shampoo
Garnier Nutrisse Sleek N Shine Shampoo
Garnier Nutrisse Sleek N Shine Conditioner
Silking Hair Serum

I love the Pumpkin products by the makes of the Big Sexy Hair, but it doesn't make my hair feel as good. Just smell yummy.

I have the exact OPPOSITE problem! THICK hair that is kinky/curly. I have to wash it every other day otherwise, it gets so frizzy! I don't have a specific shampoo I use and found out recently I am allergic to some of the Redken products (sigh) but I have started using Pureology and I love it.

I put Moroccon Oil in my hair and the blow dry it as straight as I can -- then I flat iron it.

This will normally last me a couple days before I have to wash it again - OH and I rinse it with cold cold water. THAT will wake you up in the morning!!

Sarah! I feel like I am seriously lacking in the product department now! I use...shampoo...umm hahaha. I thought it was funny that we dry our hair the same way, upside down with a paddle brush :)

I dry my hair the EXACT SAME WAY!!! I thought I was the only one who used a paddle brush to blow-dry my hair rather than a roll brush!

p.s. you couldn't be any more adorable if you tried! Love your pretty pics!

Hey! Just found out about your blog through the fabulous McMommy -hello! Lovely blog - and lovely hair! I usually do not do my own hair, as it takes forever - but I go to my salon at least once a week for a blowdry! He does it so much better than I do! I'll be back, for sure!

I have a LOT of thick hair - it's probably what you dream of, but it's been my nemesis for years!!! It gets too poofy too often and is a mess to tame. If I try to wear it long it just looks like an Egyptian pyramid...flat on top and wide on the bottom! Now I have it a bit short and layered and that's working for me. I don't use fancy shampoos, but I use a good mouse for control and then I blowdry unti it's just barely damp still and use a hot air round brushy thingy that is made by Revlon and I bought at Target to put my hair in place, so to speak. You should get one and try it. It will help you get some lift at the roots, so it would probably create the illusion of volume....Good luck!

okay, seriously i hate you and your perfect hair. You = model in that 2nd picture!

Myself? I would die without the awesomeness of velcro rollers.

Your hair seems very similar to mine and I laughed out loud about the paddle brush because I use one too. I've tried a round brush like 80 ga-zillion times but it never works for me nor can I figure it out. PHEW it feels good to admit that :-)

I use those soft pink rollers in the morning! At nighttime, I just simply blow dry my hair because of course if I don't, it will look dry otherwise, it looks nice!

In that first picture on the left, you look like Whitney from The City!!! Gorg.

My hair is a mess...it's funny that I just read this because I was just looking at my old FB pictures and I saw some REALLY good hair days...i miss those! Haha...maybe I'll do a post about them.

Now my hair is permed so it's pretty wavy, and I like it but I miss straightening it
