You know, sometimes life is funny. I can swear up and down that this won't turn into a wedding blog - but then I would be lying.
So, one of the things I was most excited about for the wedding process was the registry process. Despite the registry confusion I mentioned in my last post, I had a pretty excellent list of things that I was hoping to register for.
So, off Mr. RH and I headed to the Circle City to register for what seemed like the best 3 stores for us and our guests: Crate & Barrel, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Macy's.
Our first stop: Crate & Barrel.
Part of me was quite conflicted about this choice. While it was basically my dream registry, I was afraid that, to my small-town Indiana guests, it would look quite fancy and over-the-top. However, my "it's MY day" mentality won out. Plus, have you SEEN the cute white boxes their stuff is shipped in? It just completes me. (I mean, not as much as Mr. RH... but it's not too far off. :))
So, we hustled our butts to C&B first thing in the morning... and I swear it was almost 45 minutes before we scanned our first item. Indy has one of the smallest C&B stores I've ever seen - and yet, when it came time to scan, I freaked.
Poor Mr. RH was so patient. He looked at wine glasses that he will never drink out of (well, until I force him), compared flatware and hilariously enough has a strong option about it, and pretended ot to care when I mentioned that I needed at LEAST 5 rubber spatulas if I am supposed to function in this world.
No, he doesn't understand it either.
Crate & Barrel went off without a hitch, and we took a quick pasta break before hitting up Bed Bath & Beyond.
Once we had our strength back, we braved Bed Bath & Beyond.
After a 30 minute demonstration on how to set a table with the registry consultant (no, I'm not joking, and yes, that really happened), we were off to the races. This isn't even the largest BB&B I've seen and yet I felt like we could have stayed for HOURS.
(Side note: the registry consultant also convinced us we need to register for napkins and napkin rings and placemats. Guess which items were the first deleted from the registry?!)
Anyways, we made our way through the store section-by-section and I was surprised at how many things we found and agreed upon. I thought we did really good work.
And then - it was time for my most-anticipated item: The Kitchen-Aid Mixer.
Now, some back story. There is some old lore in my family where, rumor has it, my dad once bought my mom a vacuum for Christmas. I can't even remember the context or if he really actually bought it or was just thinking about it. Regardless, the lesson passed down to my generation was that you should Never, Ever, Ever buy your woman an appliance for any gift-giving occasion. In my mom's words, a vacuum is not a gift. It's an invitation to clean the floors and that is a message that never needs to be received.
But then, one year for Christmas, she broke all the rules. When I was 8 years old, my mom received a Kitchen-Aid Mixer for Christmas. I'm not sure I've ever seen my mom get that excited over a gift - and I'm pretty sure that, knowing my parents, she at least had some idea that the gift was coming. Kinda tough to hide a mixer under the tree!
18 years later, that mixer still sits in our kitchen and I used it this past Monday to make homemade waffles.
All that long-winded and seemingly unrelated story to say - I have looked forward to getting a KitchenAid mixer my entire life.
When I first got a full-time job, one of the first things I considered buying was my own KitchenAid mixer... but considering I was living at home and we already had a functioning KA Mixer... my dad threatened to evict me if I bought the mixer.
I waited and waited and waited.... and then Mr. RH walked into my life. A mere 19 months later, and I got my big KitchenAid moment.
Ok, so technically the mixer hasn't been purchased yet. And I guess it may never be purchased. But it's on my list and it's my most-favorite thing.
Funny thing about this picture.... I asked Mr. RH to take it, and then I was going to scan the mixer - but the dang tag wouldn't scan. Finally Mr. RH had to intervene and put it on the registry for me. Gosh darn barcodes!
We wrapped up at Bed Bath & Beyond... and moved onto Macy's.
The process of setting up the registry at Macy's was rather swanky... I felt like it was well-done, even if we hadn't called ahead so we had to wait a few minutes. No big deal.
However, the big reason I wanted to register at Macy's was for bedding. Not sure why, but I thought they would have some solid options beyond Bed Bath & Beyond.... and unfortunately, I was a wee bit disappointed.
Not only were the prices astronomically higher than BB&B (which I consider overpriced as well), but the selection was really blah. Mr. RH and I made it through the whole floor in 15 minutes and the items we added to that registry were basically pity items because I couldn't just tell the lady that we weren't really interested anymore.
6 Classy Comments:
Yay! So glad to hear you had an overall fun registering experience -- my sister and I will both be tackling that adventure with our fiances in the near future. After your recent in-depth post, I did some research myself and think we're going to go with Bed, Bath & Beyond (and probably just that, though I've created a registry on Etsy, too!).
That's so sweet about your Kitchen Aid mixer... and I totally see the appeal. It's one of those life-long investment pieces you'll never tire of, and I will definitely be begging for one myself!
I'm a big fan of Crate and Barrel and really like their after-Christmas sale.
I just KNOW you'll get that mixer!
Just so we are all being honest, as soon as I am done here, I'm going to go stalk your registries. Kind of like pintrest, I feel like they tell so much about a person.
ALSO....you are getting that damn kitchenaid mixer . After that story....I will fly to friggen Indiana and make sure of it.
xo.
i can't remember if i registered for my mixer or not....BUT i did get it, with all the bed bath and beyond gift cards we got as wedding gifts!!!
granted, she's still living in her box in a closet (for THREE YEARS!) because our kitchen has no counter space, and we've thought we were going to move like 5 times since then. but we've got a big kitchen reno on the horizon, and i'm thinking she won't be locked up much longer!
I haven't read this but thought of you when I saw it.

The mixer is the best registry item for sure! I added a red KAM with hopes that I would have enough gift cards and returns to get. Like any good bride I stalked my registry daily. I nearly screamed when I saw someone had actually purchased it. Come to find out my FIL had convinced my MIL to get it because it's much more useful than china. Love that man!
