Oprah, Girlfriend

Did y'all catch that Soup reference?

In case you've been living under a rock, this is the last week of the nationally syndicated Oprah Winfrey Show.

I remember a few years ago, in 2006, I think, when they announced that she had set an end date for her show. I had just gone over to a friend's house and it was playing on the news.

I froze.

While I rationally knew that everything must come to an end, I honestly couldn't believe that it was going to be over. Fast forward 5 years and that end date is Wednesday.

I know that lots of people are "over" Oprah. They say she's full of herself or too rich or too influential. And I get it - she's annoyingly awesome.

I remember coming home from school with my mom and grabbing the remote to turn on Oprah, first thing. You never knew if you were going to see her confronting her own demons or if she'd be making dreams come true. Those episodes were my favorite.

Oprah was the person who made my mom and I both laugh and cry. You never knew what you'd get when you tuned in, but it was almost guaranteed to make your heart smile. Her show was one of those rare shows that both my mom and I agreed was must-see.

To me, the best part of the show is that Oprah moment. That moment where she up and shocks the hell out of someone just because she can. There are moments from those shows, expressions on people's faces, that are forever burned in my mind.

So I know that this is very cheesey and lame of me to say, but I, for one, am going to have a very big Oprah-sized hole in my TV viewing schedule come Thursday.

Dear Oprah,
I could say a lot of things about the 25 years of The Oprah Winfrey Show. It's made me laugh/cry/sob/rejoice in ways I never thought possible. Your generosity is inspiring and your ability to connect with people is second to none. Thanks for taking America along on this ride and thanks for helping us learn.
Farewell, Oprah Winfrey Show. You will be missed.

Anybody else getting their tissues ready for the last 2 episodes??

Personally, I think the final episode could easily run 24 hours. She could do some huge fundraising telethon as her farewell. I'm a fan- not dedicated, don't watch often. But I admire her tenacity and her passion and her heart and her success!

I watched Oprah after school everyday as a kid and throughout high school. I definitely stopped watching with any regularity once I went to college, but the thought of the Oprah show no longer existing makes me incredibly sad for some reason. I've recorded all of the episodes from this week, and have will hate the moment that the final show ends.

I'll definitely be watching today. I just can't believe she'll be gone. My whole life Oprah's been there at 4:00 and now I'm not sure what I'll do without her at that time. It's very crazy!
