The Classy Bookshelf: Sookie Stackhouse

If you've spent any amount of time on this blog before, you know that I love love to read.

I could happily blow all my paychecks on Amazon.com on books. And happily read hundreds of pages per day.

Back in June, I read the Sookie Stackhouse series of books.

For those of you living under a rock, these books have been made into a TV series - True Blood on HBO.

Now, it's been true that I love me some vampire books, but these are some grown-up books.

Meaning - that when I cracked open the first book and there was talk of sex in a real and not vaguely hinting was - I was kinda freaked. I can talk sexy-time topics with the best of my girlfriends... but whoa. It definitely threw me for a loop.

And to be honest, I was kinda weirded.

By book 2, I was HOOKED. I read the entire ten-book series in less than a month.

The stories are fun and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. Definitely a page turner!

The only grip I have is with the last book - Dead in the Family. It was just so-so. Nothing really happened.

But at that point I was so far in (and obsessed) that one lame book couldn't stop me. Only took me 4 days to read it.

So if you enjoy series books and enjoy lots of page-turning action.... you should be reading Sookie Stackhouse!

And I would have totally missed out if PinkSass hadn't forced me to read them. I shall never doubt her recommendations again.

Have you read this series?? And more importantly, what are you reading now?? (Or what's the best book you've read lately? Inquiring minds want to know!)

Happy Tuesday!

I love when I find a great book series! It's wonderful to have a string of great books to read, but I'm always sad when a series ends. (I was beside myself when I finished the Twilight series. I wanted more. I know, I'm pathetic!)

I have only read the first of the Sookie Stackhouse series books but it didn't suck me in. As Randy says on AI, "It was just a'ight for me dog." I might give book 2 a try one day because everyone keeps saying how much they like the books.

Right now I'm reading Mennonite in a Little Black Dress. For me, just okay. The best book I've read lately - The Help, hands down. But I've also really liked The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, My Fair Lazy (so funny!) and Heart of the Matter.

It's a tie between The Help and Water for Elephants (btw Robert Pattinson is going to be in the move....swoon!)

I just picked up The Madonnas of Echo Park. I'd heard about it before and just recently saw it at Barnes & Noble so I decided to take a chance. Haven't actually opened it yet though.

I'm reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult. I've read all her books and so far this is my favorite. I'd definitely recomment it!

I loved this series, but as it went on it got a little drab...especially the last book. I am not sure if I like how True Blood is straying from the storyline or not. I didn't really like all the Maryanne hoopla of season 2.

Right now I am reading the 2nd book in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. It's cute and I love me a series!

I just finished Dead in the Family & felt the same way. But I read the rest of the books within a month as well. Absolutely amazing. I'm catching up on True Blood, I'm on Season 2 right now, and I really hate how far it's straying from the books.

I'm currently reading Chelsea, Chelsea, Bang, Bang -- it's pretty good... and am patiently awaiting Mockingjay, the last of the Hunger Games trilogy, it comes out next Tuesday. Those books are amazing!

I love the Sookie Stackhouse books....so good! Except I totally agree with you that book 10 was a snore.

I held out for a long time on Twillight, and loved it once I broke down and read them. I'm thinking I'll wind up doing the same with these. I've never watched an episode of True Blood, and I'm not huge into vampires, but I can't resist a good book!
