Saying Thank You

This thought popped into my head this morning and I just can't get it out... it's not all that exciting but you'll have to bear with me.

Every year, we get gifts from relatives out of town and so, every year, my brother and I sit down and write Thank You notes for all the gifts we have received.

Upon hearing this, one of the BFFs was a bit shocked we wrote Thank Yous. I was a bit shocked that she was shocked.

Do you all write Thank Yous for Christmas gifts? I know that many families are together during the holidays so many people get to say thanks in person - but we usually don't have that opportunity, at least with most of our family.

-------------------------------------
On an unrelated note - has anybody scored any fabulous post-holiday bargains? I'm having a big big shopping day tomorrow and I am SO EXCITED. Please advise if there are any sales I need to scope out.

-------------------------------------
To-Do List for Today
  • Master Cake Balls
  • Shop Hobby Lobby Bargains
  • Mail a Few Holiday Returns Back
  • Laundry, ugh.
  • Thank You Cards (usually they're in the mail by now - I'm slacking this year!)
And in case I hadn't mentioned it yet - thanks for hanging out here with me. I enjoyed your friendship immensely in 2009 and I can't wait for it to be even better in 2010!

Of course I write thank you notes and my daughters who are 8 do the same thing. It's so important and really makes the gift giver happy. Good for you that you write them.

I'm writing them as we speak! I think my sister and I are the only ones in our family who write thank you notes. Good for you! :)

I write Thank You notes - my Christmas ones are going in the mail today. Even if you say "thank you" in person, I think it's a nice way to let people know you really appreciated the gift.

I always follow up with a thank you card even though I see most of the people in person. I think it is nice to let someone know how much you really appreciate their thoughtfulness.

Definitely write Thank You notes! I find it crazy that people wouldn't. I always hated it as a kid, but its a great thing to do.

I always send thank yous and have since I was a wee one! In fact, I need to finish mine up during lunch today.

My mom always had me write thank you notes. And I should get my kids into the habit. Teagan is almost 5 so she is old enough now... you've inspired me and reminded me of the importance of the lost art of hand written thank you notes. Thank you!

I ALWAYS write thank-you's...in fact, my entire family would be appalled if I didn't and I find it appalling that other people do not do this as a common courtesy. Plus, like you, the majority of my family lives far away, so there is no opportunity to thank them in person.

As for bargains, I've found some amazing ones at my local outlet shops. I hope you have a successful day of shopping!

OH I love hand written Thank You's!! I, like you, send them out to those out-of-towners who send me presents.

ooo! Can't wait to hear how your cake balls turned out. I made red velvet and cream cheese icing ones for Christmas.

Yum cake balls! Those are totally out the question for me right now though. The diet WILL be stuck to. We don't do thank you cards b/c we only give to immediate family. (mom dad brother)

We don't really have any out of towners send us stuff, so I've never written a thank you card for a holiday gift. Usually, just an in person thank you and a hug and a kiss!

We see our family for Christmas, so we thank them in person. When we get things in the mail, though, we send thank you cards. It bothers me when we go to the effort to buy someone a gift and then they don't thank us for it, especially when we hand it to them and watch them open it.

Target Christmas stuff was 75% off this weekend! I got a huge container of ornaments for $3 and a 15" tree w/ ornaments for $4. I bought our Christmas cards for next year at Wal-Mart for $2 a box.

Our family doesn't usually do Thank You's. We have a terribly small family so we just say thank you on Christmas with a hug and a kiss! But I see nothing wrong with thank you cards. Let's people know you care :)

Can't wait to hear how your cake balls turn out!

I love stationary, notes, cards and THANK YOU notes. I still write them to anyone but family for everything from housewarming gifts to Christmas presents. Our immediate families have rules against thank yous (they say we're family, they know we're thankful). But everyone else? Yep, they get a handwritten thank you note.

I write HANDWRITTEN notes for EVERYTHING!

I'm absolutely appalled some people feel a quick email that says thanks for the gift is an appropriate response to a gift I thought about, purchased, and lovingly wrapped.

You know what's worse ... people that farm out their thank yous to an online company ... https://www.sendoutcards.com/jenniferk.

And the worst ... not saying thank you at all!

If you're too lazy to write a thank you note, then be too lazy to accept the gift.

Sorry, I'm obviously upset about this issue right now!

I write thank you notes for any gift and also if people have had me over for dinner (exception to this if it's good friends, I'm talking more about acquantances or family friends).

I can't remember the last time I received a thank you note though!

Thank you notes are a 50/50 split for me. I always send them to family friends that mail me something... but in person gifts are thanked with a hug, and my declaration of undying love for them and their gift. :-)

Ugh! The Thank You Note in general has been "going out of fashion" for a long time. I hate it! I always write Thank You notes, and I WRITE IT OUT. As in how I will use the gift and how I appreciate it, etc.

You know... come to think of it... I hardly ever receive Thank You Notes. Maybe only a handful. That's sad. :-(

Just to clarify... I mean a handful in my lifetime.

Last year was the first year I wrote Thank You Cards for Christmas. It was also my first married year so I had just "learned" all about Thank You etiquette. Though I haven't done it yet I FULLY intend to write them for this year....I'm adding it to my to-do list now!

We only give and get presents to Mom/Dad/Siblings/Nieces/Nephews, so no thankyou's. In fact, I believe I have only written thank you notes for my graduations and wedding.

I write thank you notes on occasion. In fact, you are reminding me to write one to my uncle and to my coworkers for their generous holiday gifts. I think it's the southerner in me that has me writing them. I don't write it out for gifts where I can tell the giver thank you, though.

and I got a BUNCH of great deals this past week. I wrote about them over at my wardrobe blog!
