Funkalicious

Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. And I'm not gonna say who it is... other than to say this is a very crappy way to start the week. So we're just gonna pretend like I'm in a better mood.

------------------------------

On Thursday last week I started demo-ing on the next big house project. Let me see if you can guess what the project is.

If you guessed "remove the hideous wall of mirrors" you would be correct. The 16 inch square mirror tiles were applied approximately 40 years ago with that 3M spongy tape stuff. The non-removable kind.

Awesome.

It took a couple of hours but I pried the glass tiles off the wall. With a screwdriver and a putty knife. Tons of the tiles broke, so I'm just glad I was wearing protective eyewear and footwear and gloves.

It was a serious mess.

As you can see in the picture above, I also took a fair amount of wall off with the mirrors. Those brown splotches on the wall are big chunks out of the wall.

Not a good thing, my friends.

So luckily for everyone I had a tub of pink spackle in my garage, perfect for patching walls.

It took about 3 layers of spackleing to get the wall smooth... but I think it might be smooth enough - finally!

So today I will be sanding and painting and cleaning up... hoping that I did a good enough job on the walls! We shall see!

---------------------------

On an unrelated note... do you remember how I told you I was living in a real-life version of animal planet?

Yeah well here's your proof.

Two racoons sitting by the picnic table on my back porch... scrounging for acorns in a bucket. About 5 feet from where I was watching TV.

I woke up at 5 this morning, walked to the TV, and saw them out of the corner of my eye on the back porch. I feel like I want to douse the entire house with bleach because... nasty animals.

-------------------------------

And on one more unrelated note, I got a little crafty this weekend.

I became with this Etsy item and wanted to order it.

But then my rational side took over and I felt like I shouldn't spent $30 on a headband. So I went to Hobby Lobby and spent $10 on supplies...

And this is what I came up with.

The first one is on the left, and then I made the 2 other ones. I haven't had a chance to get headbands to attach them to... but I'll keep you posted.

I also wanted to add a few bigger sequins randomly on each of them.. but again I'll keep you posted.

What do you think?? Are they weird? Cute? Think I'll ever wear them?

Probably not.

That's the excitement in my corner of the world... if you come back tomorrow I'll be sharing my fab first Etsy purchases with you.

Happy Monday!

Way to be crafy with the sequins too!

I love home improvement projects! I redid the hardwood in the dining room in May. I really want to sand and paint our cabinets, but the husband is nervous about it.

look at you spackling (sp?) a wall!! I can't wait to see what it looks like when you finish!

They headbands are adorable!! Was it a nightmare to deal with the sequins? Do you just use your hands to place them on? It seems like it would be frustrating bc sequins are so small. I think I want to make one if its not too hard!

That is awesome! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

About your animal situation I feel your pain, one night a couple years ago I walked outside and I thought one of my kitties was on the well (we have a deep well, no city water haha) so I go over to pet kitty and it was an OPOSSUM!!! I did the whole scream so loud no sound comes out...scared me to death!

Hi! I can completely relate to your wall of mirrors. We had something similar in our living room, but it was only 4 mirrors and not an entire wall. It was a serious demolition project trying to pry them off. It looks like you did a great job on it though.

Good luck getting rid of the raccoons. I would be grossed out too.

I think the headband appliqués came out really nice and I bet that you'll wear them.
