My Sad Bag

Ladies (and Gentlemen?),

This is my purse. As I may have mentioned in the title of this post, it is a sad state of affairs. I'm not sure exactly when I got this bag, but I think I got it in the spring of 2007.

Well over 2 years ago.

So I have been diligently shopping for a new bag.

First I made a list of my desired qualities:

  • I don't want to get a super cheap bag that's going to fall apart.
  • I really like a leather bag, but I haven't had a cloth bag in a while so maybe I am judging too soon.
  • I like a bit of structure - ie when I put my bag on the floor I like it to sit up and not flop over/open.
  • Also, I have developed a sudden aversion to spending a lot of money. Must be the unemployment talking. Or something.
I've gone to the Coach store and lusted, but then remembered "Oh hey, I'm unemployed."

I've been to TJ Maxx and eBay and some department stores but I've just been coming up empty handed.

So I come to you, o wise internets, for your advice.

Where did you buy your purse?
Do you have a favorite brand of purse?
Where is your favorite place to shop for a purse?
What brand of purse are you carrying now? Do you love it?

Basically, tell me all about your purses.

Please?

How about the Coach outlet? :)

My sister has found some great leather purses on Etsy. It might be worth your time to browse around there. :)

I agree, check out the Coach outlet if you like their bags. Still not bargain prices, but they do have sales and promotions frequently. Kate Spade has a bunch of stuff on sale right now plus an additional 25% off depending on how much you want to spend.

The Coach outlet is a great place to look. I won't say don't consider the price because you should, but also consider the value that you're going to get out of using the purse possibly for another 2 years. If there's a Macy's close by check there, they sometimes have purses marked down. I don't know if you like Dooney & Bourke, but those are also pretty cute purses!

Also check out Ebay to see what they have. My only concern on Ebay is how do you know the purses are authentic.

i got my current bag from zappos.com - they ship bags free, just like shoes! but i don't think they're any cheaper than they would be anywhere else you'd find them, which is a bummer.

I see purses as some kind of investments so i splurge..not a good example. I guess some shopping websites got good deals too, you should check it out ;)

First off...I like your current bag. But I am a Coach-aholic too. I always buy my bags at the actual Coach stores because I live to flipping far away from an outlet. But one day I will do some major damage. LOL!!! Have you checked out eBay? I have purchased brand new bags on eBay before and always love them. I will actually be listing 2 previously loved and very well taken care of Coach bags this weekend. I can send you photos of the bags (and matching wallets) if you would like. LOL!!! I can't wait to see what you decide on so you'll have to remember to post photos. Good luck on your hunt. XOXO

I carry a D & B and a Coach purse. I love all the compartments in the Dooney, but my mom bought it for me. Find a purse you love and see if you want find a deal online. I don't think she paid full price.

I have a Nine West purse that I found at TJ Maxx. It's brown leather and I got it on clearance for $29. It's so big, and has so many pockets. I am in love with it. It is a winter bag, and I wasn't even looking for a bag at the time, but at $29 for a real leather bag, I just couldn't pass it up, and now I'm so glad I didn't. Keep checking TJ Maxx and Marshalls, they get new things in weekly, and you'll be bound to find something sooner or later!

LOVE your blog!

Okay my favorite brands of what I own:

- Marc by Marc Jacobs
- Botkier (they have great sales on their very own website right now)
- Matt and Nat (just purchased my first one today!)

Favorite websites to scope bags:

- shopbop.com (bought a marc there)
- cusp.com (bought a marc there)
- shopstyle.com (they will show you different websites where the bag you are looking for are selling)

I hope this helps a little! I am a little different though - I like a slouch to my bag. Not necessarily straight up. Also check Nordstroms. They are having some sales right now and their anniversary sale starts mid-July.

xoxo

I got the greatest bag from Black House White Market. I have never gotten so many compliments on a purse before!

I am anti-Coach (sorry everyone). I love Marc by Marc Jacobs bags. Really high quality leather and half the price (at least) of the Marc Jacobs Collection bags. I also have a YSL bag I love. Pricey yes, but it still looks brand new and I treat it like crap.
