And by fights - I mean that I usually end up shouting about how right I am and then refusing to speak about the issue any more until I poll twitter for
Needless to say, our picks for wedding music are due to both the DJ (for reception) and wedding coordinator (church).... um, last Friday.
Needless to say, there has been much cursing and crying in my head for the past 48 hours because how am I supposed to pick just ONE damn song for each thing? I truly have no clue.
So, hit me with your best songs. PLEASE?! I'm desperate here.
Here's the list of songs we're still LOST on.
Reception Songs:
- Bridal Party – Reception-Entrance Song
- Bride-Groom Reception-Entrance Song
- Father-Daughter Dance Song?
- Cake-Cutting Song
- Dollar Dance – shoot me now. The things you do for love.
- Bouquet Toss Song - I've narrowed it to Raining Men by Rihanna featuring Nicki Minaj, Independent Women by Destiny's Child, Wannabe by the Spice Girls, .... NOT Single Ladies.
Wedding Songs:
- Bridal Party Processional
- Bride Processional: Pachelbel Canon in D
- Recessional: leaning towards Wedding March by Felix Mendelssohn, but I don't loove how it sounds on an organ with no accompaniment.
I have nothing to offer since we're not doing a true "wedding party" entrance, a cake cutting, or a bouquet toss... my dad and I are dancing to "the way you look tonight" by Frank Sinatra- totally arbitrary but that's probably because the only song that really "reminds me of him" (from my childhood) is entirely inappropriate for a wedding: Billy Rae Cyrus, Achy Breaky Heart. yep. He was a "dancin' dad" when I did dance as a kid and that was the song we danced to with them. haha.
ReplyDeleteJust stopped by to say that Canon in D is also my processional and I was at a wedding in August where that was her processional and nearly lost my shit. SO, ya know, walking down the aisle should be fun.
Just emailed you our list!
ReplyDeleteI am big into music, my husband is not. :)
ReplyDeleteWe used Canon in D for our processional. For our Bridal Party/Bride Groom entrance song we used the beginning of Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve. We had a small wedding party.
Even though you're not doing one, I had the perfect song picked out for the Garter toss. Luck Be A Lady by Frank Sinatra. I completely forgot about my bouquet toss, so when our DJ suggested Girls Just Want To Have Fun, I said "Yeah, whatever." :)
Google was my friend when I had the difficult decision. :)
We used Brown Eyed Girl for our wedding party entrance song (the jimmy buffet cover since we were big parrot heads). Cake cutting song was U2's the sweetest thing. We did a mother-son and father daughter dance together To Louis Armstrong's wonderful world. Dollar dances aren't something that is very common around here, so I don't know. I have heard I loved her first for a daddy-daughter dance. I also love "in your life" by the beatles. That was used as a parent-child dance at a wedding I went to. You can also ask your organist to play something complementary to the wedding processional. It tends to work out pretty well.

ReplyDeleteWe used Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring for the bridal party processional, and Wedding March by Mendelssohn for the recessional. For the reception entrance song we used the Top Gun theme song since my husband is a pilot. Father daughter dance was "Cinderella' by Steve Curtis Chapman (tears will flow). Cake cutting we used Sugar Sugar, btu another option would be How Sweet it is to be Loved by you. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI had 'Ave Maria' for the seating of the grandmothers, 'Canon in D' for the processional and finally, I walked down the aisle to 'Trumpet Voluntary.'
ReplyDeleteI'm really struggling with the father daughter dance song too!! I wish I had my music picked so I could be of some use to you. I'm trying to figure all this out too. blah
ReplyDeleteBride/Groom entrance should be something fun! We were going to do Crazy Train but decided against it... I've heard people do the Jeffersons theme song! That's pretty funny.. We used Get the Party (Pink) started for our bridal party entrance into the reception~ it was perfect. For the father/daughter dance, I did a Paul Anka, Times of Your Life with my dad. He was an artist from Dad'd time so I knew he'd appreciate it and the lyrics were great. We used the Godfather theme for the cake cutting, but I'd love to hear of something a little more exciting. HAH! My husband picked "Sex on Fire, by Kings of Leon" for the garter removal.
ReplyDeleteI struggled SO MUCH with wedding music! My husband came up with his songs in like 10 seconds, and then I was mad jealous because I liked his songs better than mine.
ReplyDeleteHe danced to God Only Knows with his mom, which I loved. I danced to Stand By Me with my dad. We used Unbelievable by EMF for our bridal party entrance. Then Walking on Sunshine by Katrina & The Waves for our entrance.
I do not envy you. This is like the hardest part of wedding planning!
This was so tough! I waited until the very last minute and then just bit the bullet and picked some.
ReplyDeleteFor the bridal party processional we did the song "Married Life" from the movie Up - if you've seen the movie then you know what I'm talking about. Such a tear jerker!
We did I Gotta Feeling for the bridal party entrance and then my dad and I danced to The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra. I think, is it bad that I can't remember?!
For cake cutting we did Pour Some Sugar on Me, but I had a hard time deciding between that and Sugar Sugar by the Archies. Good luck deciding, can't wait to hear what you pick!!
Here's a few of what we are doing. The processionals we just told our DJ to stick to tradition, so he will take care of that.
ReplyDeleteReception Entrance is just one song--Fall Out Boy-My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark
We are doing Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dance at the same time, to Rascal Flatts-My Wish.
Cake-Cutting Song--Lucky by Jason Mraz and Colbie Calait (probably butchering the spelling on that)
You can always ask your DJ, he might have some suggestions, especially for the garter toss/bouquet toss. Also, The Knot/Pinterest/Google has good lists too.
Our bridal party processional was "In My Life."

ReplyDeleteI spent SO many hours researching songs for our wedding! We chose each and every song to be played at our reception because we are so picky. I can send you my list and check out this resource if you haven't already. http://apracticalwedding.com/category/resources/playlists/
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything unique to add, other than a few that have already been posted in the comments.
ReplyDeleteBut damn, this stresses me out too just thinking about it and I'm not even planning my wedding.
I know whatever you pick, it will be fabulous!!!!
Gah, music concerns me. I'm just starting to get into making selections for things, and we have some crossovers! Our processional is also "Canon in D," which makes me all weepy. In a good way. (I think.)
ReplyDeleteThe bridal party reception entrance will be to "Everything" by Michael Buble (also a favorite of mine!), which will play as both our bridal party and Spencer and I enter. Since our group is small, it won't be playing for long!
For the cake cutting, we're also going with "The Sweetest Thing" by U2. Love that song. :)
I'd go with "Wannabe" for the bouquet toss -- that's fun and not condescending, haha! I haven't decided if I'm actually doing a bouquet toss, but I think I will... though no garter/garter toss. Eek.
Well, I had bagpipes for a processional at mine so that might be hard to come by. We had "How sweet it is" for the cake. I've seen U@'s Beautiful Day as bridal party enters and it's always fun.
ReplyDeleteWe are doing (next week BTW) Angel by Akon for the bridal party entrance. Faster by Matt Nathenson for cake cutting and Somewhere over the rainbow by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwo`ole's. Give them a listen. I didn't want to be like everyone else :)
ReplyDeleteMusic is tough- I couldn't believe how many different songs we had to think of for different things! I just found my Google Doc with our song ideas, let me know if you want a copy!
